New Conference Centre & District. Jingdezhen, China.

Contract Value: £30 million
Competition winners 2003

We were the only foreign shortlisted finalists for a competition for a new conference, exhibition centre and new residential / commercial district in Jingdezhen, China. The proposal includes offices and apartments contained within the ëwrapped wallí of a conference and exhibition centre. A ceramic tiled wall forms the facade of the complex to the main public square. The ceramic texture is a reference to Jingdezhen as the ceramic-ware and microchip production capital of China.

Exhibition spaces extend across the river beneath an artificial landscape which is a public park linking the two banks. We designed dense mixed use blocks, unusual in China, to allow a greater area of open space to be left as park permeating the development.
